Chickens enjoying an early morning stroll

The chickens are coming into lay.

Each year, the chickens cease to amaze me.

They are so sensitive to day light, that as soon as the days start to get longer, they start to lay more.  We are only a couple of weeks after the Winter Solstice.  During December, the chickens were producing an average of one egg every other day.  In the last week or so, this has increased to an average of two eggs a day.

Not selling eggs from the honesty stall at the front of the house, if we are not careful we will soon be getting a glut and need to look for another sales outlet.

Read my blog about buying a Victorian farm house in Devon, England. What started as a dream of self sufficiency, is now a midlife reality.
