While renovating our property, we have dug up a lot of ‘treasure’, junk and rubbish. Mentioned in my previous article were the hand pumps , but probably the most fragile and delicate has been antique bottles.
I think it is the age of the bottles, and that they were not mass produced by mechanised processes, that makes them unique.
The bottles were all blown into moulds and if you look closely, you can see the imperfections and bubbles in the glass.

There is a nice little article on this medicine bottle here …., however, it does have a bit of a horrible history, and the soothing syrup became known as the ‘Baby Killer’!

This is quite a quaint stumpy little jar or bottle. The bottle neck is big enough to get your finger in. From what I can see, at one time, it had a lovely glass stopper. The bottle contained a hand creme.
